Proxy troubleshooting

Proxy not working in Chrome? Check it step by step

Use this checklist when a website does not open through a proxy, authentication fails or another Chrome extension controls the connection.

Quick check

  1. Open the extension settings.
  2. Expand “Advanced”.
  3. Select “Check settings”.
  4. For an added website, run “Check through proxy”.

Check before changing rules

Confirm the proxy protocol, host, port and subscription status in your provider dashboard. Never paste proxy credentials into public diagnostic services.

The proxy does not respond

Check the subscription period and the connection string format with the provider. If the proxy works only for allowlisted IPs, add the public IP of the computer running the browser in the provider dashboard.

Authentication failed

Enter the username and password again. Authentication is supported for HTTP and HTTPS proxies. Chromium does not pass credentials to SOCKS4/SOCKS5 proxies, so SOCKS needs passwordless access, for example through an allowlisted IP.

The extension does not control the proxy

Chrome lets only one source control proxy settings. Disable another VPN/proxy extension and check browser policies. ProxRule will try to regain control automatically when the setting becomes available.

Part of the website does not load

A website may use extra domains for APIs, images or sign-in. Open the popup on that tab, run “Find related domains”, review the list and add only addresses you trust.

Yandex Browser disables the unpacked extension

This is a development-mode limitation. Persistent use requires a version from a supported extension store. Until publication, you may need to enable the test build again.

Delete all data

Open Settings → Advanced and choose “Disable and clear”. Browser local/session storage is also removed when the extension is uninstalled. Delete previously downloaded backup files yourself.
