How to enable a proxy for selected websites only

You need working proxy details from a provider you choose. ProxRule does not supply servers, but accepts common connection formats.

1. Prepare the proxy string

The extension accepts a host and port, a URL with a scheme, and HTTP/HTTPS proxies with a username and password. For example:

Do not post your real connection string in messages, screenshots or issues. It may contain credentials.

2. Add the connection

  1. Open the extension settings.
  2. Paste the value into “Connection string”.
  3. Check the safe preview: protocol, host, port and whether authentication was detected.
  4. Select “Use”, then save the settings.

HTTP/HTTPS credentials can be kept until the browser closes or, after a separate confirmation, in the browser profile. Chromium does not support SOCKS authentication.

3. Choose the websites

Paste domains or URLs into “New websites”, separated by a line break, space or comma. The extension keeps the hostname only, without a path or query parameters.

For a quicker route, open the website, select the extension icon and choose either the exact host or the base domain with all subdomains.

4. Enable and verify

  1. Turn on the main switch.
  2. Open an added website and check its route in the popup.
  3. If the page does not load, open Settings → Advanced.
  4. Run the local diagnostic and the HTTPS check for the selected website.

The route status tells you which rule was assigned. It does not prove the proxy's external IP or anonymity.

5. When a website uses extra domains

Select “Find related domains” in the popup. ProxRule reloads the current tab once, collects only resource hostnames and removes the result after five minutes. Nothing is added automatically — review and confirm each domain.

Direct exclusions and temporary rules

A direct exclusion always wins over a proxy rule. Use it when an address inside a selected domain must stay direct. For a one-off task, create a rule until the browser closes or for a limited duration.

Safe failure behaviour

By default, a selected website will not silently connect directly when the proxy is unavailable. A direct fallback must be enabled as a separate, explicit choice.
